Boo – My first iPhone issue

I have my first and hopefully last software issue with the iPhone today. I have had to restart occasionally but this afternoon I couldn’t get past the Apple loading screen. I reset, and then I reset. And then I tried again. But no luck. So I had to do a restore by holding down the HOME button and plugging it in. iTunes asks if it wants to restore and I did. Then I tried to restore from a backup but that didn’t work. So I just let iTunes do it’s thing and reload all of my applications back on. It does take time, and it would really suck if it crashed when I wasn’t at home.

Hopefully the next software update which apparently is being seeded to developers will solve all of these little bugs that frequently occur with any new product.

This does reinforce that it is so important to back up. All of my contacts, calendars and mail is synced with my computer using MobileMe so really there is no loss, but I’m sure some people don’t set this stuff up, or even allow for the basic backup in iTunes.

You can force a manual backup in iTunes when you have your iPhone plugged in and right click on it in the Devices list. There is an option there to backup. Do it…
