Ate in Harlem … Toronto

Wednesday night before heading to Avenue Q we went to a little restaurant named Harlem at Richmond and Church. Aaron has wanted to go for a while and we finally went as a last minute decision to go.

I really liked the ambiance at the restaurant. It was comfortable and laid back and we manged to score the one and only booth. There was only one other couple when we arrived but was quite a bit busier when we left. It was quite warm in the restaurant, they had all of the doors open and some fans blowing, and with the spice in the food, I was a little sticky at the end of it.

The cuisine is Southern comfort food. The menu had a good selection of food and many dishes I would go back to try.

Alen and I both ordered jerk chicken meatloaf. It came with white rice and some greens. There was a jutney on top, I don’t know exactly what that is but I think it is a combination of Jerk + Chutney. It was good and the portion size was generous too.

Brad had the Southern Fried chicken which was, well, southern fried chicken. It was battered and deep fried with some spice. He said it was pretty good.

Aaron had the BBQ chicken and he said it was pretty good too.

Not all of the dishes came with sides, so they have some sides you can order. Aaron ordered beans and rice (very tasty) and Brad ordered the candied yams. Which were the table favourite.

Overall we would definitely go back there for dinner. The menu had a nice selection and there are things I would like to go back and try like the ribs. They also serve lunch too.

The mains for dinner ranged from $12 to $22. Not all the dishes need an additional side, the meatloaf definitely did not.
