Today was a grand day. The weather is a balmy 27 degress… perfection. The sky is blue and every retail store is shut down since it is Sunday. It does make us site see faster when you can’t shop along the way.
My favourite way to see a city via double decker bus (except in Toronto). So we hopped on this morning and took the tour down to the Belem region of the city. We walked along the waterfront with all the other tourists and took in the sites. They have a beautiful Suspension bridge that really puts the Lion’s Gate Bridge to shame. For lunch we found a nice little patio and ate some greasy meat. We are done with local cuisine… well after Portuguese chicken tonight. They love greasy meat and salty fish over here. Lunch was great with the exception of the old man shaking the damn balloons filled with beans … I wish I had a poison dart.
We were told by Alen’s co-worker and Gavin’s brother Josh that the best Portuguese custard tarts were located somewhere in Lisbon. And as it turns out we were right around the corner from the tart maker.
So we purchased and enjoyed the warm and crispy tarts in the shade of the park. Definitely tasty. Aaron, custard flavour wise, your tarts are comparable, but there is something to be said for a warm, buttery, crispy shell.
Tomorrow, we are heading to Sintra and doing a bus tour on the other side of the city.
