Day in Sintra with Pictures

Everyone told us to go to Sintra and I’m so glad we did. The town is a world heritage site about 45 minutes by train out of Lisbon.

We arrived and hopped on the city bus that first took us to the Moorish castle. The road to the top of the mountain was insane. Windy as hell through beautiful lush forest, and in a city bus.

You walk through the forest and come to a castle wall that you climb up to The view was absolutely stunning. You can see all the towns below all the way to the Atlantic. The wall was all stone and you could stop at turrets to see the view and snap pictures.

After breaking a sweat, we were happy to return to where we started and to the water machine.

A funny story, we stopped at the beginning to have some European tourists take the first of many pictures of us. There was a rock wall with a great view behind. After the young guy took our picture, Gavin being the genteman that he is asked if they wanted a picture together. His question was answered by an abrupt NO. Hmmm. Are they at the end of their relationship and now just counting the days until the end of the trip? We will never know.

After hopping on the city bus we were on the way to Pena National Palace. A beautiful castle even higher than the last one. Beneath the blue clear sky the brightly coloured castle was totally breathtaking. The view was even better but the structure definitely stole the show here.

After grabbing some lunch back in the village we are now sitting on the train heading back to Lisbon.

Thanks to everyone that recommended Sintra.
