I'm not a big fan of either prix fixe tastings or buffets (so buffet selections are largely irrelevant to me). I prefer eating meals (selected from menus) with table service in a formal dining room. Carnival is the mass mid market brand, whereas Princess is more upscale. I expect buffets are more popular with the Carnival crowd (and that few of them would pay $75 for a chef's table experience (which probably explains why such an option is not offered)). Did a sommelier serve wine pairings with your Chef Tables courses? I'm looking forward to my upcoming Alaskan cruise (my 11th) this Summer on the NCL Pearl. They have 10 different restaurants to select from, including a steak house, french, italian, mexican and asian themed dining rooms! The Asian dining room offers Teppanyaki, a sushi bar and a saki lounge!

Aaron,

We didn't get to go to Marseille at all! We hopped on a tour bus and headed out to two beautiful little towns. I'll be blogging about that tonight or tomorrow!

Steve, no I don't think that Princess is a cut above Carnival. I am still a fan of Carnival and their food. They have much more selection, and the buffets are definitely better. Gavin has said that Princess has scaled back from previous travels. I'm sure if Carnival had this to offer it would be just as good. We have heard nothing good about Sabatini's so we are avoiding it. We are going to the Grill on Friday night though.

And yes, our cookbooks are signed, we didn't have to ask, they just came that way. We may go to the cooking show tomorrow, but it is 10 tomorrow and we may want to sleep in, it is the second of sea days tomorrow.

Wow! Now I'm jealous. Looks and sounds absolutely amazing and decadent. All I eat is salad and radishes. :)

Did you make it to the Marseilles fish market?

Sounds tasty. I am sure you will now agree that Princess food / dining is a cut above what you have previously experienced on board Carnival cruiseships. (And IMHO Celebrity food/dining is even better than Princess!) I've never reserved the Chef's Table experience but have taken several galley (kitchen) tours on several Princess ships (tho not during a live meal service, so there was no need to don gowns). I've also been served cavier on board (in the Sabatinis Italian specialty restaurant). We have our own copy of the Princess cookbook-- they sell them (for around 20 bucks) at the tasting Chef's Hilarious Cooking Show later in the cruise. Did you get the chef to autograph your cookbook?
