Cairns

New Years day we headed to the airport to catch a flight to Cairns. Arriving at the domestic terminal we were excited that we were taking our first Qantas flight. What is in Cairns? The Great Barrier Reef.
Cairns is a pretty little town right on the coast of Queensland. We arrived at the hotel and our place wasn't ready yet so we headed to the Esplanade where we went to grab a bite to eat. Being New Years Day lots of businesses were closed, but lucky for us most of the restaurants were open.
The beach in these parts is basically non existant, just a buddy coastline with no sand. So they have a pretty little lagoon where people can play and swim around. I was tempted for a second to hop in, but I was exhausted to lunch and a nap was what I really needed.
Afterall, I needed my energy for the next big adventure, our overnight boat trip to the Great Barrier Reef.

Qantas
This 3 hour flight was in business class on a 767. We were able to first visit the Qantas business lounge where we got a free full breakfast which was a nice break from all the expensive food we have been buying.
Hotel
The Getaway
We stayed at an condo hotel... with in-suite laundry. Thankfully, I was almost out of underwear. It was clean and a good size with two bedrooms, each with bathroom.
