Marvelous Melbourne

2012-01-08

Our trip to Melbourne is coming to an end. Tomorrow we leave for the two day trek to Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road. I have no doubt it will live up to its name.

What can I say about Melbourne? I love it. What a great city... I find the energy of this city to be quite a bit different then Sydney. As soon as we walk out of the hotel there is Federation Square, some think an eyesore, but it grew on me. Restaurants, concert space, meeting place. Sort of what Dundas Square in Toronto should be but isn't. Turn the other direction and you are snaking your way through alleys lined with restaurants and patio tables. There is something to be admired of a climate where they barely reach freezing.

Melbourne has lots to boast about also. Numerous sporting stadiums, a great train/tram system and Kylie Minogue. We took a great walking tour called Melbourne By Foot and got to see some sites that we wouldn't have found on our own like the street art which is all over the city.

We also ate some pretty fine food here also. From the higher end PM24 and Movida to a more casual D.O.C. Pizza Bar we had some great eats. Even the fast food sushi places where fantastic... Sushi rolls that are fresh and quick to pick up as you are walking down the street.

This is definitely a city I would like to return to someday.
