We just got back from the Paris, Not France movie that got a little bit of hype this year at the film festival. The rumour is that the Hilton family didn’t want the film shown and they were up in arms that the film was even made.
Well she proved everyone wrong and showed up at the movie with Benji Madden to watch the movie. And my very reliable source says that Paris and the director Adria Petty (Tom Petty’s daughter) are on good terms since they are heading to a local Bistro for dinner tonight. So was it just a publicity stunt? Was it just a ploy when they said that the movie will probably shown once at the TIFF and never again, to get people to come to the movie? Most likely.
There was nothing shocking or revealing about Paris in the movie. Also it is nice to see that she isn’t as stupid as she acts in real life. The voice, the one word answers are all just a ploy and her persona. As Nicki Hilton put it, Paris is just a caricature of herself now, and sometime she doesn’t know when to stop it. But underneath it all, she is there to make money, she works hard, and even if most people don’t agree, she does a good job doing it. And I have to agree. She really has made a lot of money and created buzz by seeming to do nothing. I have to side with her, and I know there will be critics out there, but it would actually be a lot of work being her. It’s like being on a constant vacation, you may love it, it may be fun and sound luxurious, but you come home and you are tired as hell. Sometimes you need a vacation from the vacation.
So I managed to get some video, the theatre shots weren’t good enough to use and it was just her walking in and out, but this is after the movie when she is signing autographs and making her way to the car.
We just got home from Religulous at the Toronto International Film
Festival. It is a controversial movie that basically has Bill Maher
breaking down why religion will be the end of the world and that
religious peoples are just silly. I can see why this film is
controversial, it brings to light that religion is a sham. He
interviews different people at different levels of the religious
heirarchy from evangelists, priests at the Vatican down to the actor
playing Jesus at the religious theme park in Orlando. The questions he
asks demonstrate that religion makes people believe things that are so
out of the ordinary that if it didn’t belong in that followers
religion, that follower would never believe. Does that make sense? Do
you believe we all came from Adam and Eve in a garden with a talking
snake? Do you believe a virgin gave birth? If these types of things
were not part of religion they would sound ludicrous. So why do people
still believe these things?
Now I’m not a religious person but it is easy for me to see how many
people could be very taken aback by this. No one wants to be told that
what they believe is untrue. But that is why religion is dangerous.
The big religions all believe the end will come and those that
believe will be saved. Well I don’t believe and I would rather the
world don’t blow itself up anytime soon because I don’t know if there
is anything after death, I would like to enjoy life while I have it.
With religion being the cause of almost every war it is as if religion
will bring the end. But it is man that will destroy ourselves and the
movie makes the point that we can only save ourselves and we have to do
so without religion.
I thought the movie was quite entertaining and he made a lot of good
points. (Despite the horrible sound at the Ryerson theatre and the guy
with the most annoying laugh sitting behind us.)
The director of this movie was Larry Charles of Borat and Seinfeld
fame. Bill and Larry were both there and did a Q&A at the end. Bill
really needs a tan. His hair is the same color as his skin so at some
points it just looked like a mouth and beady eyes. He is so pale!
Please take my religious comments with a grain of salt. I am no
historian or theologist. Don’t forget the name of this blog: Random
Thoughts. And as you have the right to believe Moses parted the red
sea, I have the right to believe he did not.
So today the festival kicks off for us, we have our first of 6 movies. Normally I’m always hopeful that I will get to see some stars but it is looking bleak this year. They have changed the system so when you buy a package of tickets like what we did, you can no longer go to the Gala’s or the movies at the Elgin (where a lot of the premiers are). Hopefully the movies that we are going to see are still good movies even though they don’t have the star power. I’ll still have my camera ready just in case.
We are seeing the following:
So nothing really blockbuster sounding. I was really wanted to see Burn after Reading with Clooney and Pitt but that was a Gala and a very hard ticket to get. Maybe I’ll see them both at the gym.
